Back in April, we were pleased to announce the completion of the Pathway to Prosperity campaign to endow scholarships and held our first Pathway to Prosperity Endowed Scholarship Luncheon. At the luncheon, Dr. Fred Hueston shared a powerful prayer that was a blessing to us all. We hope you will find it as meaningful as those of us who were in attendance.
His prayer read:
“Our Father and Our God,
Your good book of Ecclesiastes teaches us that ‘there is a time for everything under Heaven.’
Today is one such time – a time for celebration…
Indeed – it is a time to reflect upon the generosity of many individuals and couples, families and foundations, corporate leaders and community representatives – all of whom stated:
‘We believe in these women and men, and in their families. And we want to make a lasting and positive difference in their lives….not only today – but for many years to come.’
Our Father, it is a time to celebrate our exceptional staff, our continuing board leadership, and the unfailing relentlessness of the campaign Steering Committee together with the Business Builders Sub-Committee – with the remarkable fortitude they exhibited month after month – repeatedly sharing the story of our need – together with the unwavering belief that we collectively are truly paving a Pathway to Prosperity.
Most importantly, Father, we share in a time of celebration for the single moms and single dads together with their families, that are working so hard, so diligently, with a sharp focus – toward their respective personal goals.
Be by their side, and give them your unalterable strength, to accomplish their tasks at hand this day, this semester, this year.
Father, we believe it is through your guiding presence that this campaign goal was accomplished, just as it was through your presence when, 32 years ago, a small group gathered to make a profound impact upon the lives of EIGHT single parents and the obstacles that potentially blocked their path to educational success.
And now – for future generations, hundreds if not thousands of families’ lives will be positively changed…not only in the next 32 years… but for decades after that as well.
We welcome your presence this day, Father, and in celebration, and with sincere gratitude, we humbly say ‘Amen.'”
